Thelia is an open source tool for creating e-business websites and managing online content. The solution is built on top of Symfony framework, and it’s actually running hundreds of online shops in France and all around the world since 2005. Backed by the french company OpenStudio for 15 years, the solution does not offer a ready-to-use e-commerce templates catalog, because it encourages the creation and integration of a custom theme in each project.
Web sites based on Thelia then have a light, custom template, benefiting from all the SEO optimizations that the site developer can integrate into it (semantics, micro-data, etc.). Which make it in terms of display performance, a PageSpeed score greater than 90% is very easily conceivable.
Thelia V2 and Symfony 2.8
We were surprised that in addition to all these powerful features, the solution is still running Symfony 2.8 putting all of its users in security risk ! An issue opened two years ago about upgrading to Symfony 4.3 didn’t seems to get any attention. Notice that security fixes for Symfony 2.8 ended by November 2019.
Also we cannot say that the project is abandoned since latest edition 2.4.3 was released on November 2, 2020. The project also have lots of modules available. In the public repositories of modules we can see at least 227 modules available which is huge, and at least hundred of them have been recently updated. So it’s not only ghosts.
We are really sorry for all the marketing materials, the beautiful solution, and for the ISO 9001, but some efforts to upgrade the solution will be highly appreciated.
