After long discussions about adopting PHP5 against PHP4, and dropping the PHP4 support forever from PHP.net site, a new initiative GoPHP5 have been launched to promote and help this transition.
Hope this initiative will help introducing PHP5 to more users and especially to developers, because it will allow more people to use it and certainly to discover more bugs and make more experiments.
I still skeptic on the performance of PHP5 against PHP4 in real applications, because the latest benchmark I have read proven the opposite. Even if PHP5 at some levels was fast, PHP4 applications run much faster overall, and go convince developers to switch on this ! Beside the fact that the promise to make PHP4 applications compatible with PHP5 engine did not realize, a small exception of applications can run on both without changes. I bet they are not the target.
Until February 5th, still 211 days and I think it’s enough to make the switch. If you think you could be ready by that date, you can goPHP5. Hoping that goPHP6 will be easier from PHP5 !
