I just woke up today and usually Digg isn’t the first todo, but Manuel just pointed me to Digg website which totally screwed up by spammers, the HD DVD revolt !! Slashdot users had some fun of Digg, but things goes so fast and at the current time I’m writing this Digg website is down.

Digg responded twice on their blog today, first to tell that they are aware of the HD-DVD stories and explains the censorship thing, then Kevin posted a Digg This: 09-f9-11-02-9d-74-e3-5b-d8-41-56-c5-63-56-88-c0, and then the site goes down ! That was obvious somehow to be able to moderate and remove all the HD-DVD stories you might think ? But no, Digg decided to not delete anything and will try to deal with whatever the consequences might be.
What a mess to see Digg killed by its own popularity. The whole social concept of Digg is in troubles today, will the community react first or will keep Digg suffering from its own system ? This is what happen when a website depend totally of its own user’s contribution and the big moderation is kept on their side. A challenge that Digg is facing, and I salute the courage of Kevin for saying If we lose, then what the hell, at least we died trying.
Today is a big day at Digg, while I’m not sure if Kevin meant in his post Digg on or Digg off.
