Google have a new Code search engine, that will help you searching in public source codes. What is great is that Google Code Search crawl not only plain code, but also code available in archives (.tar.gz, .tar.bz2, .tar, and .zip), CVS repositories and Subversion repositories. You can use regular expression to find the function or code you are looking for, or using language specific pattern lang:, by package , or even by license.

In the result you can find source of the code, License (GPL, LGPL, BSD, …), and the language (C,C++, PHP, Perl, Lisp …) . For a beta product I find it really powerful search engine for source code that will certainly help developers find the code they are looking for. I have found already some of my code indexed there, especially my VoiceXML PHP Framework, MySQL Backup Pro which is used by Pligg and many others CMS. There is a link to add your code to Google Code Search, in case you want to be listed, Just enter url for an archive, CVS or SVN. A new great product that joined the labs, until it become beta and could join the Google Products Family.
