With the latest efforts to update the GPL license, came this story of Kororaa which was accused of violating the GPL license. The Kororaa Project, a pre-configured binary install method for Gentoo Linux which bundles nVidia’s and ATI binary drivers in its Kororaa Xgl Live CD , has put its Live CD on hold after being accused of violating the GPL. The issue appears to be the distribution of the Linux Kernel and nVidia’s/ATI binary drivers together. When the binary drivers are built the GPL’ed code is included in the binary result, which is a violation. Such issues revoke the solid partnership between Open source and many industrials, while linux is trying to conquer a larger market how could the GPL be better understood and reflect better the basis of open source ? because personaly I don’t see anything wrong in including the binary driver in the CD that make it in conflict with the GPL license.
