A first alpha of Firefox 2.0a1 have been released for testing purpose, the project code is “Bon Echo“. I downloaded a copy to test it from mozilla servers, and of course when we talk about alpha almost all extension are not compatible, only Session Saver and BugMeNot got updates. First I started by uninstalling TabX extension, because Firefox 2.0 offer close tabs button by default.

I still didn’t use it too much but I’m noticing already that memory usage have been reduced so much, currently I have about 50 and 60 Mb, but I’ll check it later tomorrow to see how much it increase. Few minutes before installing the new alpha memory usage where up to 200Mb.
Update : After about 24hours of running firefox memory usage didn’t exceed the 65Mb, I think this is very promising.

Firefox 2.0 introduced new layout for bookmarks, the window include also history, bookmarks toolbar and subscriptions. I find it much better to organize and search in bookmarks, list all your subscriptions …etc. I think the Firefox 2.0 will be a robust version of mozilla Firefox specially if it solves all memory lack problems which all users were complaining about, in addition to all the great features and improvements that have been implemented to make browsing the web too much fun.
