I was waiting for the php|architect of this month, I mean february, and it’s finally released yesterday ! I enjoy reading the PDF edition as usual, because the paper will took another month to get it. This month featured eZ components and how to Harness Ez’s new code library by Derick rethans, Zend Certification and The Making of One Thousand Zend Certified Engineers, SFTP in PHP, Doing It Japanese Style and applying the poka-yoke concept to input filtering and output escaping. The Security Corner this month is about Character Encoding, and a test Pattern: How Do I Develop?

I enjoyed as usual reading the exit(0); by Marco, as usual he take us in a little trip with a very interesting experience “The Other Technology”. I felt myself concerned a little as every developped envoled into OSS development, I always faced proprietary technology and lot of problems with them. When verything is proprietary, you have to pay for every information and every single support ! While we used to find all necessary information in the web, a small shortcut and the answer is in your hands.

I can’t guess which “Other Technology” Marco was talking about, costing $5,000 per license and $15,000 for its support. Someone who saw the price he’ll say that this should solve all my problems with web development, while it does not ! This will be a beginning for a new era of problems, and nothing but problems.
Finally there is a review of MySQL 5, is it ready for PRIME TIME by PETER MACINTYRE. The article covered the installation, and the new features of MySQL 5. The database which have got performance speed and reliability, the new version is becoming more solid with more and more great features. He give it 5/5 the perfection ! I prefer 4.5 for the human bugs 🙂
