Even though using Captcha has solved the spam problem on phpmagazine.net, I completely agree with the slashdot post about Web Users Angered by Anti-Spam ‘Captcha’. But do you know a better way ?
In the beginning, I received many emails from angry users that were having problems with our comment system, or more accurately, with the “captcha” that we use to prevent comment spam, but that was not the only usage !

The current comment system has helped keep comments published in real time without moderation. Comparing the few angry users who send emails (3 until today, if my memory is correct) with the thousands of comments that the website currently receives, we can only offer an apology to the few users.
We have even decided to drop trackback from our system in March 2006 due to the huge number of trackback spam that we received. Unfortunately, there is no similar control in the trackback protocol, otherwise we would implement it on the network.
I have seen much worse captcha implementations, do you think the one we are currently using is that difficult to read?
