Let’s all make PHP awesome! To guarantee the continuity of the PHP releases, the PHP team are always looking for new Release Manager candidates. Before 2010 PHP releases have always been done spontaneously, in a somehow chaotic way, but after the vote of the Release process RFC, PHP got a clear and periodic release cycle, and a transparent decision process for the feature additions.
The reason why during new releases there is always a veteran release manager in addition to a new volunteer, in order to increase the supply of veteran RMs, or another veteran if none volunteered. The reason why you are invited to join the RMs experience, you may find all the release process documented here and in the Release process RFC.
Release manager selection date
RM selection for the PHP 8.1 branch will be coming up in April, and additional announcements will be forthcoming as we approach the selection date on the PHP internals list. On April 12th (provisional), Gabriel Caruso or Sara Golemon, the PHP 8.0 Release Managers, will announce the list of candidates and, and if more than two candidates have volunteered, open a vote.
Regardless of who is participating, you’ll have access to all active release managers to help get you up and running. So don’t hesitate to become the RM of the next PHP !
